I am thrilled to announce that in April, I’ll be conducting the West Coast premiere of Ricky Ian Gordon’s new opera, A Coffin in Egypt. The performances will take place at The Wallis Annenberg Center, and the centerpiece of this one-woman tour-deforce is the indefatigable Frederica von Stade. I’ve worked with Flicka often in the past as an assistant, and my admiration for her knows no bounds. The opera is based on a play by Horton Foote and will be directed by Leonard Foglia, whose work so many have admired in Jake Heggie’s great work Moby Dick. I am hugely grateful to the Houston Grand Opera for this opportunity.
Here is a link to a wonderful article about Flicka preparing this piece at the Houston Grand Opera. Those performances will take place beginning March 15. Houston friends, don’t miss it. LA friends, I hope to see you in April!
