Hard to believe, but my Ann Arbor respite is almost over. I’ve had a big and exciting learning curve at the Kerrytown Concert House, and we have a very cool season shaping up. (If you are in the SE Michigan area, check us out!) I’ve also had a chance to just relax and study – and not study – at home. But in the next few days, I’ll pack the suitcases for one more summer sojourn, this time all in the Great Lakes region.
First up is a stop at the brand new Resonanz Festival, started by a Met Opera compatriot of mine, Heidi Skok. Soprano Jenny Cresswell and I will perform Thomas Pasatieri’s Before Breakfast on Saturday, August 12, at the Fine Arts Association in Willoughby OH. This piece is a blast, high drama all the way but with many opportunities for gorgeous and intimate singing. I’m glad there are more of these operatically conceived works for voice and piano, and grateful for the chance to perform this one with Jenny.
Then two weeks one of my favorite cities in all the land: Chicago! I’ll be helping some of the singers at the Lyric Opera’s Ryan Center prepare their roles in Cosi fan tutte. We’ll do a small private performance to cap off that project.
Back home to Ann Arbor then, just over a week before U-M starts up. There will be just enough time to fit in one more Great Lakes adventure. But that one won’t have anything to do with opera, and will probably not be connected to the Internet either…
